  1. NEW MONTH AND NEW YEAR:

  3. The 'New Month' command is one of the
  4. keys of this budget system. At the end of
  5. every month, after ALL transactions and
  6. changes for the month have been entered,
  7. select 'New Month' under the 'Budget'
  8. menu. That will lock the file so that no
  9. more changes can be made, and then
  10. save the file as an archive. You can
  11. always view or print the information, but
  12. cannot change it. (Except for marking
  13. transactions when bank or credit card
  14. statements arrive). The default name will
  15. be the Month and Year of the middle
  16. transaction in a file, but you will be
  17. prompted whether you prefer another
  18. name. Then the old current amounts will
  19. become the new start amounts, and the
  20. budget will transfer money from some
  21. Funds into others. Since Funds and
  22. Accounts which were deleted the previous
  23. month will be removed at this time, it is
  24. possible that the budget will no longer be
  25. balanced, and you will have to make some
  26. changes. The transaction list will be
  27. erased. If you later discover a transaction
  28. from the previous month was missed, you
  29. can enter it in the new month. ONCE A FILE
  30. IS LOCKED IT CANNOT BE UNLOCKED.

  32. 'New Year' simply resets the Year-To-
  33. Date variables for the Funds. At the end of
  34. a calendar year, you will be asked if you
  35. wish to reset the variables at the end of a
  36. 'New Month' command. If your fiscal year
  37. ends at some other time, select the 'New
  38. Year' command after performing a 'New
  39. Month' command whenever your new
  40. fiscal year begins.
